Two Kalash girls. The following images were all taken in and around the village of Rumbur which is located up in the Kalash Valley close to the Afghanistan border.

Mobile phones are everywhere!

As in every household, kids are always happy to do the chores, even if it involves a visit down to the river.

A typical Kalash living room. The entire family eats and sleeps in this single room. All the cooking is done outside on the verandah or porch.

A typical family cooking area. The stove pipe sends smoke directly up to the neighbours above. Some cooking areas are simply made from hand formed mud.

A group of Muslim Kalash schoolgirls. 10% of the Kalash in this valley have been converted to Islam and have to live separately from the rest though they are still allowed to wear the traditional dress.
